Our very own River Champion!

Our very own River Champion!

National expert advice centre for best-practice river conservation the River Restoration Centre (RRC) has recently awarded 9 volunteers nationwide for their phenomenal efforts in improving their local waterway. Of those 9, one of our longest-standing volunteers and friend of the RSC Paul Winks has been granted the title of ‘River Champion’.

The River Champions initiative seeks to celebrate the outstanding efforts of individuals contributing to river restoration in their area.  It aims to recognise those dedicating time outside of their day-to-day roles to contribute toward improving rivers for wildlife and people.

A keen boater and nature enthusiast, Paul began dedicating his time to the company almost four years ago and to this day continues to contribute countless hours, skills and experience to enhancing Sheffield’s waterways.

In addition to helping out RSC with various projects including Trout in Tanks, River Guardians and general educational visits with school groups, Paul is a keystone member of local volunteer collective Friends of the Blue Loop (FotBL). As a core volunteer of the FotBL committee heavily involved in the management, organisation and practical elements of the conservation group, Paul is key to their success.

Paul has always been a River Champion to us and we are very proud that he is now officially celebrated!
