We work with volunteers to help deliver our social aim to improve the waterways in Sheffield. We deliver weekly volunteer days, the 'Blue Loop Troop', to implement waterway maintenance and habitat improvements along the River Don and Tinsley Canal. We also deliver one-off volunteer days for a range of clients including Groundwork Sheffield, the Environment Agency and Sheffield Homes. We have the skills to work with individuals with a range of needs and abilities, and with young people as well as adults.
We provide placements for skilled and enthusiastic people trying to secure a job in the environment sector. We deliver discrete training projects, and involve people on training programmes in our site team.
We deliver enjoyable and well organised corporate team building days, giving a team the chance to get out on the river and get their hands mucky! An opportunity for businesses to give their team a good day out and foster good team relations, as well as raise their profile locally as a 'good corporate citizen'. Clients have included Hammerson and Meadowhall Shopping Centre.
We organise and deliver regular events to involve the local community in fun activities and educational sessions on and about the waterways in Sheffield. Ranging from canoeing taster days for youth groups, to wildlife walks for schools, to bug hunts for families – we work to highlight the value of our waterways and the fun you can have there.
Our vision is to involve local people in their waterways to help care for them. By delivering projects to inform local people how our waterways are managed, and things to look out for, we are supporting local communities to be able to report problems on their river effectively. We are also helping people living and working close to the river to prepare for the worst case scenario - to protect themselves and their property in the event of a flood.
